ABSTRACT

Objective At present, the detection rate of cervical metastatic lymph nodes in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is relatively low by imaging technology. The article aimed to demonstrate the ultrasonographic features of PTC in predicting cervical lymph nodes metastasis(CLNM).Methods A retrospective analysis was done on 169 PTC patients proved by surgery and pathology who underwent cervical lymph node dissection in the Department of Ultrasonography in Nanjing General Hospital of Nanjing Military Command from January 2016 to March 2017.The patients were divided into CLNM group(n=83) and non-CLNM group (n =86).Analysis was made on the related risk factors of PTC CLNM.Results Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age(OR=0.211,95%CI:0.078~0.571,P=0.002),nodule size (OR=3.116,95%CI:1.498~6.482,P=0.002) and shape (OR=3.000,95%CI:1.301~6.913,P=0.010) were risk factors for CLNM in PTC(P<0.05).The sensitivity rates of patient's age, nodule shape, module size, and microcalcification for predicting CLNM in PTC patients were 91%、79%、61%、75% respectively. Conclusion For PTC patients less than 30 years old, ultrasonographic features with maximal diameter of nodule > 1 cm,irregular shape, and microcalcification have a certain predictive value on CLNM and can be used as the basis for the selection of intraoperative cervical lymph node dissection.

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo establish an animal model of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in rat and to observe the changes in behavior, brain edema and tissue structure during absorption of the hematoma.MethodsAn animal model of ICH was established by stereotactically infusing 100 μl (the first time 20 μl, the second time 40 μl, the third time 40 μl) of autologous caudal artery blood into caudate nucleus in the rats. The behavior of rats with ICH was assessed by Bederson score, beam-walking test, bilateral forepaws grasp and measurement of forelimb placing. The brain edema and the change in histology were observed.ResultsThe successful ratio of this model was 75%. There were significant behavioral changes and brain edema at 6 h after the ICH in rats of the experimental group compared to those of the control group. The worse behavioral changes and brain edema was at 48~72 h after hemorrhage. In the earlier period, the nerve cells were swelling. A lot of glial cells appeared around the hematoma in the late period.ConclusionThis ICH model is reproducible, and the obvious behavioral change and histological changes are similar to clinical patient with ICH.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo search the marker proteins of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS)-associated Campylobacter jejuni (C. jejuni) by comparing the protein maps of GBS-associated C. jejuni strains with that of non-GBS-associated C. jejuni strains.

METHODSThe whole-cell proteins of eight GBS-associated and eight non-GBS-associated C. jejuni strains were separated using the two-dimensional gel electrophoresis respectively. The differentially expressed proteins between the two sets of strains were identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) after in-gel tryptic digestion.

RESULTSTwenty differentially expressed spots were found with seventeen identified ones using MSCOT database. These proteins were identified as wlaX protein and some other proteins involving in energy metabolism (malate dehydrogenase, triosephosphate isomerase, Ni/Fe-hydrogenase small chain, cysteine synthase, branched-chain amino acid aminotransferase), cell process (heat shock protein, iron-uptake ABC transport system periplasmic iron-binding protein, alkyl hydroperoxide reductase), cell envelope (flagellin, UDP-N-acetylenolpyruvoylglucosamine reductase) etc.

CONCLUSIONWlaX proteins were probably associated with LPS biosynthesis or virulence of C. jejuni. WlaX protein and flagellin protein were the possible marker-proteins of GBS-associated C. jejuni strains.
